The Vat Dyestuff are generally insoluble in water. They must be converted into soluble leuco form by reduction with sodium hydrosulphite in the presence of caustic soda. Only in this form ,they can be dyed on the fabrics,they turned back to the original form of insoluble dyes by oxidation with air or oxidazing agent, which are finally fixed onto the fabrics.
