This foam underlay reduces the echo of the laminate floor and makes it sound like a quality hardwood floor. One of the problems with standard foam underlayments is that they do not absorb sound, and they reflect a hollow echo sound when walking across the floor. A premium underlayment such as this is that it is more sound absorbant and makes the sound of walking across the floor quieter. When items are dropped on the floor there is less of a "bang" and the echo of the sound is reduced.
