Helical fittings for insulator binding are now being adopted by many utilities and electric power companies in the world. These are factory formed from multiple wires that are suitable for hand application.
MV or HV ties permit controlled movement of the conductors over the insulators under unbalanced load condicitons resulting from impact on the conductors or support, conductor oscillation, galloping, ice unloading or in the extreme case, broken conductors. The use of ties on HV insulators has not reduced the flashover and withstand voltage capabilities of the insulators. The design of the ties for use on HV insulators has aimed at minimum RIV levels for completed insulator/conductor tie assemblies.
For LV intermediate/angle ties, no movement of the conductor through the ties is permitted for out of balance tensions less than 200 kgf. . Under broken wire conductors, controlled movement of bare or PVC covered conductors through the ties is permitted, provided that the out of balance tensions exceed 200 kgf.
